Caroline Romano Talks “Girl in A China Shop”, Coconut Water, and more…

Nashville-Based Singer/Songwriter Caroline Romono is one to watch with her newest EP “Girl in a China Shop”. I had the pleasure of sitting down with her the other week, and asked her about the project!

Q: what did you draw inspiration from, when you were writing ‘Girl In A China shop’?

A: I wrote it about turning 22, right after, when I was at a place where I felt so old but also so immature. Where I was making more mistakes than I ever had. I made some choices that I said I wouldn’t do anymore, but was still doing it. It was very reflective; everything I tell myself I’m gonna do, I end up not doing or doing worse.

Q: what has been your favorite part of performing live?

A: I love every aspect of it. I feel like I am a very naturally shy and reserved person; anytime I really do feel like myself, though, is when I’m on stage. That’s who I really am at the end of the day, even if it’s only for 30 minutes at a time. Lately there’s been times on stage where I’ve seen people singing back words to me, even songs that aren’t out yet. That’s so crazy to me.

Q: what was your favorite part of creating your Ep, ‘a brief epic’?

A: A little bit of it was, I wrote it all about one guy, my first real relationship; I knew that he would hear it and so it was my last chance to talk to him. I also loved exploring myself in the relationship with other people; I wrote a lot of this EP with my friends. I was just finding different ways to make it poetic and finding different elements and feelings I didn’t even know I was feeling during that time. Also, finding a different new sound and the storytelling aspect of that .

Q: who would you say your inspirations are?

A: I would definitely say Noah Kahan, he’s my favorite lyrically of all time. Holly Humberstone, she has cadences that I love. Taylor Swift, is the ultimate storyteller so I always have such admiration for her. The 1975, because they’re not afraid to be weird and say things that don’t mean one thing, which is cool. Twenty One Pilots as well!

Q: what were your top 5 on Spotify wrapped ?

A: The 1975, Bo Burnham, Taylor Swift , Knox, and Noah Kahan.

Q: what are you most excited about, for the release of ‘Tell Her I Said Hi’?

A: I’m really excited because it has been a fan favorite of mine; when I started teasing it and playing it, everyone kept asking when it was coming out. It’s the last song im writing about this situationship that I have; kinda my last ‘this so what I’ll say’. I’m really excited to be closing a chapter and go on but also that it is finally coming out!

Q: what would be your dream venue to play?

A: Smaller one is Brooklyn bowl here in Nashville; I’ve seen so many artists before they were really big play there. Also, Madison Square Garden is anyones dream venue !

Q: Do you have any plans to play outside of Nashville this coming year?

A: I don’t know; we are looking at some touring opportunities but I hope so! I would love to!

Q: what is your all-time favorite song you’ve ever written?

A: My favorite is ‘Arrivederci’ which means ‘until I see you again’. It’s super sad and big picture but it means a lot and it’s one I can look at in my life and see through different points.

Q: what are some goals for your career, that you’re working on?

A: My biggest goal for 2024 is touring; live performances, for me, are my favorite thing. I’ve never gotten to do that, so I’m trying to make that happen. I, also, wanna release another album or EP; I’ve been writing a lot of music and I am coming up on being able to see what that looks like.

Q: Do you have any preshow rituals?

A: I always go to Walgreens and buy coconut water; I don’t drink anything on stage, so I get it and go out to my car and drink it after a show is done.
