Lost Hearts talk playing live, musical influences and more…

Lost Hearts is a rock/alternative band based in Nashville, TN. The band currently consists of four members; Max Frye (vocals and guitar), Victor Adriel (guitar and bass), JT Shea (guitar and bass), and Mitch Arnholt (Drums). What started out as four friends hanging out and playing together for fun, soon blossomed into what we see today. Their discography currently consists of 3 songs: "Hate Yourself", "Night To Remember" and "Maybe I'd Want You".

"Maybe I'd Want You” is the newest single having come out on June 16th, and has already left it's mark on me! It has a very punk rock vibe with the catchy guitar riffs and vocals that are easy to scream along to in the car. With lyrics like "I don't know what you really want, you're second guessing all around the clock" leaves the listener with the viewpoint of a relationship that is constantly in turmoil. Being with someone who is always changing their feelings, but still craving that person even through the craziness. Songs can be all about interpretation; this is what I felt the song meant. But I encourage everyone to go listen and see what it means for you! Either way you're listening to an amazing song and supporting a very talented group.

I had the honor to sit down with two members of the band, Max Frye and Victor Adriel. I got to know more about their roots, playing together and who has influenced them musically.

Q: How did you guys meet? What made you want to form the band?

A: Max- Victor moved here in 2020, he was supposed to go on a tour but because of Covid that paused. Me and him were both playing in tribute bands for Van Halen and Def Leppard at the time, so we met through that and did some shows together. We started as friends, we started to hang out and knew eventually we would do something. It took a little while, we talked about it for a bit, but eventually we both knew JT and that he was a songwriter/producer. So we brought him in and eventually added a drummer as well.

Q: Speaking of playing in tribute bands, how would you say that affected the overall style, creative and recording aspects of the band?

A: Max- There's a little bit of everything; 60's, 70's, 80's. There is a lot of different influences in the music; we would never wanna limit ourselves and say we just want to do ONE thing. We still don't know exactly what we want to sound like, but you never really know what that is, it's just figuring it out. We have three songs out right now, and I think they all are very different. I ask people what they hear or what they would compare us to, because I still don't really know.

Victor- We all came from pretty much the same background of the classic rock vibe. So when we got together, there wasn't a Lost Hearts, it was just us getting together to write songs. The main thing we thought about was writing something that was fresh. It is still inspired by other artists, if you really listen, but at the same time there's other genres too. People ask what we sound like, and I don't know what to say because there's a mix of so much.

Q: Has music always been a passion of yours, or did it come later in life?

A: Max- I grew up with a lot of music around. My first concert was Kiss; I didn't start playing till I was 12 but I always imagined myself doing something in music. When I was young, my parents tried to get me to play guitar but I didn't have the patience it took. At 12, my connection to music got deeper and so that's when I really started to get serious. With singing, that didn't come until a few years ago.

Victor- I always loved music since I was younger but I started as a soccer player. I always had music playing before games in my headphones. Eventually I started playing guitar when I was 15, and I had to split my attention between college, soccer and playing. So, it took me a while to really be able to ONLY focus on music.

Q: Who has been your biggest musical influences?

A: Max- It's all across the map but we like a lot of new stuff; Maneskin, Royal Blood, The Struts, Greta Van Fleet, Kiss, INXS, Duran Duran, Siouxsie and the Banshees. We go through a bit of everything! We both are pretty open minded, because as an artist you should listen to more than just what you like.

Victor- we both like such different stuff, but now that we live together we started listening to a lot of bands together.

Q: What was your first venue? Were there any learning curves of playing together at first?

A: Max- Our first show was on April 1st, at a venue in West Virginia called The Rim. We have changed a lot since then. I don't know what the specific learning curves would be, but you're never gonna know what will happen on stage. Obviously, you should still prepare and rehearse but the true honing of the craft is on stage. We are still learning and we have gotten better since then but there's still a ways to go. I am excited to see where we are in a year, after we play our first tour; how we will evolve and what we will be.

Victor- A lot of artists start as "Cover" bands, do that for a couple years and then start their own music. On the other hand, we played original songs and just went for it. It took us a minute to getting used to being Lost Hearts and not something else. We are still learning!

Q: What is your dream venue to play?

A: Max- For me, Bridgestone Arena and The Ryman are two that everyone in Nashville wants to play. We often go to shows to even just learn what these artists do to get people to come to their shows.

Victor- I would love to play The Fox Theater in Atlanta!

Q: If you could create your own "Mount Rushmore" of artists, which 4 would you pick?

A: Max- I would go with Paul Stanley, Michael Hutchence, Prince, and Eddie Van Halen.
Victor- I'd choose Paul Stanley, Ozzy osbourne, Eddie Van Halen, and Angus Young.

Q: What's your favorite bar food?

A: Max/Victor- Our top three are fish and chips, fried pickles and hushpuppies.

Q: Artist Spotlight: What is currently your favorite song?

A: Victor- Why Don't We Go There by One Direction
Max-
Rio by Duran Duran
