Album Review: The Good Witch by Maisie Peters
Maisie Peters is a pop-alternative singer-songwriter born in the UK who is signed with multiple well-known record labels. So far Maisie has created three albums from 2021-2023, one of which was a soundtrack to Apple TV’s original “Trying” for their second season. Maisie first gained a large following on youtube back in the mid 2010’s and further down the road became very well known for her hit single “Place We Were Made”.
“The Good Witch” begins with Maisie’s first song on the album titled “The Good Witch” typically artists do not start albums with songs of the same title of the album, this is what gives her album a special touch, she is breaking standards and starting this album out strong with a song that truly encapsulates her feelings toward the album as a whole.
Some may know that Maisie was actually going through a breakup at the time of writing the album. Once listening to each song as a whole you can piece together her point of view of the events that were occurring in her life during the process of having just released a debut album as well as a breakup.
“Two Weeks Ago” is the perfect song to better understand how in life when certain events occur that we don’t necessarily appreciate, can cause us to just want time to rewind so we can fix it or simply not be living through what is happening currently as a result of said events. “I was happier than I’d ever known, now I wish it was two weeks ago” perfectly explains that in moments of joy we tend to take them for granted and when they are over it is very hard to not reminisce on those good times.
On this album there are also songs that give feel good vibes, especially “The Band and I”. From the beat of the song to the lyrics as a whole this song is one that is so easy to relate to even if you’re not in a band, feeling free and thinking back on the best times of your life brings a spark of exultation that anyone can say they have felt at least once in their life.
Overall, this album truly hits home no matter what season and circumstance you could be going through. Maisie does an amazing job portraying specific life events good and bad throughout the songs on this album with their unique pop beat all the way to the heartfelt lyrics.
If you haven’t yet, I highly encourage you to give “The Good Witch” a listen, it definitely won’t dissapoint!
