On May 3rd 2023, Harry Styles released a music video for his single “Satellite”. This video explained the bittersweet story of a robot working backstage at Harry’s concert as a roomba going on a journey to achieve its dream of looking up at the stars.

Our first setting seen in this music video is the green room belonging to Harry. The TV in this greenroom is picturing footage of the Mars curiosity rover- a robot designed to explore mars that is still functional to this day. Sitting in the green room watching this is a small roomba vacuum that was just pictured cleaning the floors a few seconds ago. The tiny robot lifts his head, seemingly inspired, and begins on his journey.

Our robot protagonist is next seen on stage of the Harry Styles concert– seemingly enjoying the short time he was in the limelight. Unfortunately, he is shortly taken off stage by staff only to be thrown off into the trashcan nearby. After the little roomba learns some cool skateboard tricks, he begins on his journey across America.

The video then shows us a sequence of events of the roomba traveling everywhere across the states. His exact mission is never stated at this point, but when he comes up to a few satellite dishes, we are soon met with the explanation behind his journey soon enough.

As the roomba approaches these satellites, we see Harry laying on the ground, stargazing in the night sky. As soon as the robot goes to join him, his battery flashes, indicating he is running low and will die soon. As the little robot looks up at the peaceful night sky, his lights run out, showing that he can finally rest while achieving his goal. Shortly after, the viewers are delighted to find out that the last setting our robot landed upon that held these satellites was the NASA base.

Harry Styles new music video is an incredible story about someone- or something with a dream and the lengths they will go to pursue it. This bittersweet yet inspiring video is nearly a tough watch for those who are sympathetic. The trope seen in this video can be seen as overdone but is still relatable to people at any bout in their life.
