Song Review: Sacred The Thread- Greta Van Fleet
Greta Van Fleet released their second single from their upcoming album, Starcatcher on Friday, May 19. This new song, “Sacred The Thread” had previously been teased at shows before their performance of “Age of Machine” as far back as 2021. According to lead singer, Josh Kiszka, he wrote this song about his jumpsuits, but taking a listen to the track, you will see it goes deeper than that.
The track starts with just drumbeats, shortly after joined with the iconic toning of Jake Kiszka’s guitar. Kiszka’s vocals meld perfectly with the instruments to create an ethereal listening experience. Taking a closer listen to the lyrics, one can hear that they are deeply introspective.
One of the lines that stuck out to me is “I see me through colors, gems, and trim.” The way that I interpreted this was that they see their fans at shows wearing outfits that look like theirs or doing makeup that looks like theirs and they see themselves through that. One of the things that has always stuck out to me about Greta Van Fleet is how they care for their fans and the people around them.
Another lyric that stuck out to me was “to dress up a wound, heal a scar.” Oftentimes, concerts are used as a form of escapism for a lot of people and picking out an outfit is one of the fun parts. This lyric reminded me that as healing and cathartic concerts are for fans, they can be just as healing for the artist knowing that they are living their dream.
“Sacred The Thread” is beautifully done and leaves fans wanting more from Greta Van Fleet. Starcatcher, the album, comes out on July 21st. I can’t wait to see what they have in store next.
