Music Video Review: ‘Everything I’m Missing’ by The Thing With Feathers

‘Everything I’m Missing’ was the first single of 2023 released by Nashville- based band, The Thing With Feathers. The single released on January 20th and was the fourth single off of their upcoming second EP. The song was met with immediate praise from fans for the sense of nostalgia it ascertained.

The initial sound of the single is the perfect blend of indie pop and rock. It’s bright, fun, and youthful, but the lyrics are introspective in a way. As young adults, most of us like to push the limits on how much fun is too much fun. The way that I interpreted the meaning was that the song told from the point of view of a young person afraid to slow down for fear of missing out on something grand or fun.

For those of us who grew up in the early- 2000’s in the final age before technology was easily accessible, we found ways turn a seemingly mundane situation into something fun and unexpected with a little creativity. The guys of The Thing With Feathers do just that in the music video accompanying the track.

The MV released today, February 17, and had been teased by the band on their social media accounts. Fans were anxiously awaiting the release after the promotion pictures and videos came out and the band was seen sporting bowling gear and inside of a bowling alley.

Watching the video, we find out that it is indeed set inside of a bowling alley and arcade. The Feathers guys are seen working, whether that be behind the bar, polishing bowling balls, or inside the arcade, when a group of older lascivious women walk through the door. The women are enjoying themselves, bowling, laughing, and flirting with the guys of the band. The guys give in and decide to turn their typical night of work into a fun one, not wanting to miss out on the opportunity.

Complete with laughter, promiscuity (of the best kind), and the overall charm the guys of The Feathers have, this music video checks all of the boxes for me. You can check it out here!
