“II” by Fuzzrod - Album Review

Via Fuzzrod on Spotify

Only a badass band with a badass sound can drop an album full of bangers on a Wednesday in February. Rochester, New York based band, Fuzzrod, did just that.

Their sophomore album, II, dropped today, four years to the day after their first album released. The album release show is happening this Saturday, February 25 at The Bug Jar in Rochester. Our very own Emily Yancey will be attending the album release show to photograph it, so be on the lookout for the gallery to drop soon after.

Enough of my rambling, lets get into the meat and potatoes of the album.

“No Bones” begins the album with a classic punk rock sound and an all around fun song. Fuzzrod had bones on the brain for this one and now I have bones on the brain as well. I smiled through the whole song and was singing along by the end. This is one that you and your friends can scream at the top of your lungs in the car together.

“My Convertible” is up next. This one was one of my favorites as it has the perfect sound for blasting with your windows down in the summer… or, the top of your convertible, if you will. The shredding of the guitars was absolutely epic and really made the song for me.

“Throw You In The River” starts off with a really cool, moody, 80s-techno sound. At first listen, I felt like I could conquer the world. The sound is so unique and nothing like I’ve ever heard before, but I dig it.

“Fleetwood Trash” is up next. HOLY COW THIS SONG. It’s dark, sensual, and will make you stop and think. Karrah’s vocals are absolutely mind blowing on this track, reminding me of some of the best voices in rock-n-roll. This one immediately went on my everyday playlist, I can safely say that I am absolutely obsessed.

“Better How” gives the grungy, garage band, punk rock sound of the 90s that we all know and love. The lyric “I want to feel better, faster” hit me where it hurt because don’t we all want to feel better, faster? But how. Scream this one at the top of your lungs or until you feel better.

“Don’t Go” may be the second to last song on the album, but it is not second to last in my heart, that’s for sure. It’s sexy, it’s grungy, it’s got the dirty sound that I crave in modern rock music. If more bands could encapsulate this sound, the world would be a better place.

We make it to the last song on the album, “Dead Angel.” This one has an acoustic, light melody, but the lyrics are not so light. Have you ever loved someone so much that you’d kill an angel for them? How about knit mittens from its hair? Well, Fuzzrod would and I think I would do the same for them now. I loved every second of this album, there is not a single song that I would skip.

I truly hope you’ll give this album a listen, check out their first album on spotify, find them on instagram, go to the album release show on Saturday (tickets here). Support this band, support growing artists, and be a good human being.
