Song Review: “Consider Me A Winner” by Emma Ogier

Emma Ogier is a 19 year old singer-songwriter based in Nashville, TN. She mainly focuses on an americana indie-pop sound and tends to draw inspiration from artist such as Phoebe Bridgers and Joni Mitchell.

Having already played shows in both Nashville and Los Angeles, she has also recently come back from a US tour supporting Michaela Slinger; so there is no doubt that Emma will take the indie world by storm.

Her second single "Consider Me A Winner" was released a month or so ago and speaks on a topic we all can relate to....change.

“’
Consider Me a Winner’ is about fear, and uncontrollable change,” Emma explains. “This song is how I imagined the next semester might be without my best friend and former roommate after I found out she was leaving. In reality, it was far from lonely. Change is inevitable and we win by adapting and evolving."

This song really spoke to me, and i'm sure many others, as change can be a really scary thing to happen. Most of us like to stay in our current situations because that is where we are most comfortable. Yet, this song explains those fears and emotions; in doing so, it almost provides a positive feeling in knowing that no one is alone.

We all go through changes, and we all are afraid of what they may bring. I admire Emma's vulnerability in expressing that through this song and allowing others to feel this TOGETHER. It also serves as a reminder that while the current change is terrifying, on the other side of it there can be such beautiful outcomes that are unimaginable. It serves as an example that we can never grow, learn , or experience amazing things unless we go through CHANGE.

Melomania loves to support artists on their journeys and so i encourage everyone to go listen to the song!! As well as check out Emma's Instagram, Tiktok, Spotify and Youtube.
