EP Review:“Lovesick” by Molly Grace

Molly Grace’s newest EP, “Lovesick” dropped on November 17th and I’m here to tell you about it. I recently found Molly Grace through an Instagram reel of her performance at the Belmont Showcase, where she won for Pop Showcase. A scroll through her profile for reels from her performance makes it easy to understand just why she won. Incredible vocals aside, Molly’s stage presence is nothing short of captivating. She dominates the stage with an air of confidence while keeping it fun and flirty. The video sparked my interest so intensely that I instantly started streaming her music and texted a couple of my friends “hey have you ever heard of Molly Grace? Look at this reel, she’s SO FUN”.

My natural instinct when finding new artists is to compare them to similar artists. Who do they remind me of? Instantly Molly reminded me of Lizzo but once I started to listen to her other songs, I see that “pop funk goodness” in her instagram bio is the perfect description of her style. I have a hard time pinning her down to a genre and I love that she doesn’t fit in one or even two genre categories.

Let's talk a little about the EP now. “Lovesick” consists of five songs that each tell a story in their own way and while they’re all incredible, let me tell you briefly about my two favorites. “Lover (Love Her)” is the song that dropped Molly onto my radar. The energy of the song and the funky bass are magnetic, you can’t help but be drawn in. The way Molly introduces the song live by bringing each member of her band in individually is mesmerizing.

My personal favorite on the EP is “If I Never Told You”. Molly’s vocals in this song are commanding, clean, and emotive in a way that captures and holds your attention. I find myself humming this one often. “If I Never Told You” tells a story of a love interest who is scared of the relationship and Molly begging them to reconsider, to give the relationship a chance because she loves them.

Check out the rest of “Lovesick” wherever you stream music and trust me when I say that Molly Grace is one to watch over the next few years. After all, everybody wants to know Molly ;)
