Song Review: “Something Wrong” by The Thing With Feathers
The Thing With Feathers is an indie-rock band based out of Nashville, TN. If you're a frequent visitor to this magazine, then you are no stranger to this band. If you are new, welcome! This band is one to keep an eye on! Their previous releases include 2 EP's; Sundays In The South and Waste My Revenge! One thing that always sticks out is their ability to create many different environments with their songs.
The background of the band's name is based around hope! According to the main singer, David Welcsh, he aims for their songs to be a safe haven; so that whoever listens can find hope, a sense of home, and just overall the feeling of being welcomed. Music is something that truly brings people together and The Thing With Feathers truly radiate that! Their recent single, Something Wrong, which came out today also follows that!
It is a song with a strong rock vibe; full of catchy guitar riffs, heavy drums and a melody that leaves you wanting more. While the song is 3 minutes, it is one that is meant to stay on repeat! Along with the catchy instrumentals and melody, the lyrics also tie into a topic we all know too well--relationships.
It speaks about finding that person that you just always want to be around even if it can feel like you're doing Something Wrong. Some of the lyrics, for example, are:
I couldn't let it go
and when i stopped you said let's go all night
you make me feel like I’ve done something wrong
When I listen, it makes me think about the feelings i get in a deep crush or situation. Sometimes, when things work out, there can be feelings of doubt or hesitation. Whether the relationship is good or bad, this is something that everyone often encounters. It also, however, highlights some of the other sides of that narrative. That point when you like someone that, even if a relationship isn't a possibility, you still do what you can to be around them.
Obviously, music is always up for interpretation! That being said i highly recommend you go listen for yourself and see what the song means to you; but The Thing With Feathers always seems to leave that open-ended. These were my thoughts on the song, and how it made me feel but i always encourage our readers to explore on their own! That's the beauty of music! Once again, another amazingly written song from this band and i have no doubt there will be more to come!!
