Music Video Review: ‘Golden’ by The Thing With Feathers

Via The Thing With Feather’s Spotify

Nashville based Indie-Rock band The Thing With Feathers have just released their newest music video for their song "Golden”. As this song is in their top 3 on Spotify, they once again serve a music video full of nostalgia and a fun 90's aesthetic to the table.

Despite debuting in 2019, The Thing With Feathers’ music video “Golden” takes place on January 19th, 1991. This, paired with the visual quality, already sets the stage of the feeling of anemoia that their music will provide to its listeners. Taking place around 1 AM, the video obviously goes to show how important it is to let loose with the perfect house show aesthetic! They are seen partying with fans and friends in a basement show or a garage concert–some of the best underground venues of that time. Even now these are the best kinds of places to see this type of scene! Because of this, I believe that it makes the perfect setting for such a band to have their music video staged like this.

The video is recorded in both lo-fi and high quality at different points. When the focus is on the band, it's recorded by someone either living in that time or just capturing a memory of a local jam-sesh. When the focus is on the people of the venue, the visuals are higher quality and even appear in slow motion. All in all, people are shown to be having fun and enjoying the moment all together as one in the music video. Everyone is smiling, drinking, dancing, and overall having a good time enjoying this nostalgia filled music.

This is a music video filled with wistfulness and yearn for the 90s underground feel, partying, and overall the fun of life. You can watch the music video “Golden” here -> https://youtu.be/OTZ2FwNwTZU
