Song Review: Save Yourself- Foxglove
If you’re a fan of The 1975 and early 5 Seconds of Summer, do I have a song for you. Foxglove’s newest single “Save Yourself” fits into my favorite subgenre of indie rock- upbeat instrumentals paired with angsty lyrics.
While the music feels a lot like driving with all of the windows down or dancing around the house using anything you can find as a microphone, lyrics like “I can finally stand to breathe again and I can get by on my own” and “I took a chance for me … sometimes it still hurts” tell the story in a different light.
The flow of the second verse is my favorite part of the song as a whole. The change in pace is fun and sets the tone for the transition back into the chorus. The guitar solo (what’s a rock song without one?) does exactly what it needs to do to round out and conclude the song.
Foxglove’s single “Save Yourself” is streaming on June 2nd, and their debut EP Inflections is out now.
